The plate is placed on the presse's bed, a damped 100% rag content paper over it. Felt blankets protect the plate and paper from the high pressure of the cylinder witch, I have been told, can reach one ton per square inch, but they also distribute this pressure to fill deeper cuts of the plate.
The wheel moves the bed between the two cylinders (there is one beneath), the pressure transfers the ink from the plate to the paper, witch is put to rest and dry between blotters.
